REDUCING THE WEIGHT OF SCHOOL BAGS
Dear Parent,
A healthy body is a platform for nurturing a healthy mind. Hence, health, safety and physical wellbeing of students is of utmost importance at DPS Rohini. We aim towards making school life enjoyable and rewarding. The school is conscious of the fact that a light bag is a must for a healthy body. Hence, we have been working towards measures to reduce the load of the school bags of our students.
With the above in view and as a constant concern for the betterment of the students, the following measures are being practiced continuously by the school:
Subject Specific Schedule:
- ENGLISH & HINDI : Notebooks and ASMs are kept in the class cupboards and are sent home alternately once in two weeks . The course book is sent home only when the students are asked to prepare for any regular assessment/assignment (open book test/dictation/recitation)
- MATHEMATICS : ASM is kept in school. Notebook is to be carried to school everyday. Course book is to be brought to school once in a fortnight for classes IV and V. For classes II and III, the books are kept in school and are sent home periodically.
- ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES : Course book and notebook of the related chapter in progress is sent home regularly. The other notebook and course book are kept in the class cupboard.
Some other guidelines :
- Books such as General Knowledge, Computer, Art, supplementary readers and other academic material such as loose sheets are retained in the school.Activities and projects are planned in such a manner that they can be completed within school hours and retained in school so that students do not have to carry them back home.
- Monitors have been assigned the task of checking the bags of students in each class. Regular checks are carried out to ensure that students get into the habit of carrying only necessary stuff.
- The School ensures adequate supply of potable and safe drinking water for all. Hence, students can avoid bringing heavy and bulky bottles to school.
We strongly feel that our sincere efforts coupled with cooperation from your side would yield maximum results in keeping our children healthy and strong. Some suggested measures to be followed by the parents are as follows:
- It has been found that the empty bags being used by the students weigh around 1-1.5 kg. Please get a light school back pack with two taut stripes for your ward. Getting a light canvas bag would go a long way in ensuring lesser load for the children.
- Students should be encouraged to pack their bags on daily basis and to avoid carrying unnecessary articles, textbooks that are not needed.
- Parents may advise their wards to make a note in the Almanac, of the text books to be brought to school as announced by respective subject teachers.
- Parental supervision is essential when a child is setting his bag for the next day as per the Time-Table.
- It has been observed that students are carrying too many boxes to bring stationery, which in themselves become very bulky. Please get fabric/plastic pouches for storing stationery in place of big and bulky pencil boxes.
- Please encourage your ward to carry one single lunch box to carry all the meals of the day.
- Kindly refrain from giving heavy steel bottles to children as it adds to the weight of the bag.
- Children are often in the habit of storing things in their school bags. Therefore, regular cleaning of the school bag is essential.
School is continuously aiming towards the betterment of students. Kindly, be a part of this effort to make this endeavour a success.
