CIRCULAR TO PARENTS ON ‘THE MOMO CHALLENGE’

Dear Parents,

It has been our constant endeavour to sensitize parents, students and teachers on the increasingly harmful and addictive games on the internet. We have been regularly providing guidelines for the safe and effective use of the Internet and Digital Technologies. Sessions on new age addictions seen in children have also been conducted for all teachers, to empower them and be alert in identifying tell-tale signs of internet addiction.

In this context, The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued an advisory to the public to provide information about the ‘MOMO CHALLENGE ‘, an online game that has been reported as  a new game going viral on social media. In this game, members are challenged to communicate with unknown people. The game encourages users to engage in a variety of self-harming dares which become increasingly risky as the game progresses and finally ends with a suicide challenge. If the player does not follow instructions, the controller threatens the players with violent images , audios and videos.

Kindly go through the advisory attached herewith to know more about this game and ensure that your ward is not engaged in unsafe online activities.
