‘MATH MISTAKES ALLOW THINKING TO HAPPEN.’
Study of Mathematics promotes habits of accuracy and exactitude. It sharpens our reasoning powers and increases our mental alertness.
Hence the study of some Mathematics is compulsory up to the secondary stage of all education systems, and its habit has to be fostered with complete dedication.
Mathematics proves useful in our day-to-day life. It helps us perform many of our tasks, with basic mathematical skills, we can keep record of our day-to-day expenses, make budgets and preplan our expenditures. We become more systematic in our approach while dealing with others and develop problem solving approach in our lives. Basic mathematical calculations help train and develop a child’s mind. Thus, it is imperative to develop a love for the subject. In an attempt to foster love for math, to develop the love of the subject, Delhi Public School – Rohini is celebrating MATHEMATICS WEEK from Monday, 10 DECEMBER 2018 to Friday, 14 DECEMBER 2018.
Various fun- filled activities have been planned for Classes II - V to make this week an enriching combination of appreciation of our Mathematical skills and learning. The details of the activities are attached alongwith.
We would further like to share some tips by which you can engage children and develop interest in the subject :
- Make math fun. Spend time with kids on simple board games, puzzles, and activities that encourage better attitudes and stronger math skills. Even everyday activities such as playing with toys in a sandbox or in a tub at bath time can teach children math concepts like weight, density and volume.
- Mix in math. The kitchen is filled with tasty opportunities to teach fractional measurements, like doubling and dividing cookie recipes.
- Use real world examples to teach math. Point out ways that people use math every day to pay bills, balance their checkbooks, figure out their net earnings, make change, and tip at restaurants. Involve older children in projects that incorporate geometric and algebraic concepts like planting a garden, building a bookshelf, or figuring how long it will take to drive to your family vacation destination.
- Encourage children to solve problems. Provide assistance, but let them figure it out themselves. Problem solving is a lifetime skill.
- Prepare them for a profession. Let kids know what vocations require a sound base in mathematics. Careers in carpentry, landscaping, medicine, pharmacy, aeronautics, and meteorology all require strong math skills. Let them know that they too can be successful in math.
- There is nothing to fear but fear itself. Regardless of your own experience with school mathematics, you can encourage your child to develop a love of math through supporting their performance, helping with school projects, and discussing their homework. Help them appreciate how a strong foundation in math can lead to great opportunities in the future. All this and much more together can go a long way to make our children confident mathematicians.
Looking forward to your cooperation as always.
