Trip to Astroport, Sariska

 

89 students from Class VIII (A, B & C) and 8 teachers went on a two-day trip to Astroport, Sariska on16 November and 17 November 2018. Activities like Astronomy, Jungle Safari and Organic Farming were organized for the students. Sumptuous and wholesome organic food items were served for all meals. Students enjoyed the experience of staying in tents. All in all, it was a wonderful experience for everyone.

Adventure Camp at Sadhupul, Chail

A group of 120 students of class IX along with their teachers went on a four days and three nights trip to the adventure camp at Sadhupur, Chail from 24 October 2018 – 27 October 2018. The students had a first-hand experience of staying in tents in the lap of nature abounding in scenic beauty. They enjoyed a host of confidence building and adventure activities at the camp site like Burma Bridge, rock climbing, Commando net, High rope course activities, etc. The high point of the trip was the trek to the waterfall through the thick pine trees forests.

An Educational Tour to The National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR)

 

The National Institute of Plant Genome Research, Aruna Asif Ali Marg, organized an ‘Open Day’ on Friday, 26 October 2018. The Biology students of Class XI visited the Institute along with Ms. Shelly Wadhwa.

The event provided students an insight into the kind of research work pursued at the Institute in the field of Plant Genomics and Biotechnology. It also showcased a plethora of facilities available at the Institute for carrying out research for crop improvement.

Students visited the plant tissue culture laboratory, studied the working of a confocal microscope and also learnt about the advanced techniques used for isolating DNA. They also got an opportunity to interact with scientists and research students at the institute.

The event was very well organized and stimulated young brains to develop an interest in scientific research to build a better society.

Advanced Enrichment Programme in Mathematics

The DPS Society organised a five-day Advanced Enrichment Programme in Mathematics for selected students of Class XI at DPS Navi Mumbai. In all, 59 students from 14 DPS schools across India attended. The students stayed at DPS Navi Mumbai for the duration of the camp. The classes were conducted by eminent mathematicians Mr. V. Seshan, Mr. Vikas Tiwari, Prof. Joseph Amalnathan, Scientist BARC and Prof. M.A. Prasad, Former Scientist BARC. The participants were able to gain in-depth knowledge and understood the topics covered. It was an enriching experience as it provided students an ability to visualize and develop a distinctive way of thinking. A Mathematics Talent Test was conducted for the participating students. Our students performed exceedingly well. Saksham Chauhan (XI B) stood first while Vanshaj Vohra (XI A) and Parth Mahendru (XI A) bagged the second place. In all, it was an intellectually stimulating and rewarding experience.

Field Visit for Class XII Psychology students to VIMHANS

An educational visit to VIMHANS Hospital was organized for the Psychology students of Class XII on 18th and 19th September 2018. 36 students of class XII participated in the field visit which provided a practical exposure to students about Therapy and Disorder, which are a part of their syllabus. The visit provided the students an opportunity to experience Art therapy, food therapy, case discussion and experience cases on hospital rounds. The visit was very informative, and the students came back with real and moving and memorable experiences.

Medical Exhibition- ‘CATALYST-2018’

All India Institute of Medical Sciences

 

The Students ‘Union, AIIMS had organized a medical exhibition for school students on Friday, 27.04.18. Students of classes XI B (Biology) of our school along with Ms. Shelly Wadhwa visited the exhibition which provided students an opportunity to learn briefly about human anatomy using cadaveric specimens. The students were also exposed to the basic forensic techniques – analysing poisonous plants and animals, weapons, basic life support techniques like the CPR and microscopic examination of various tissues. They also got a chance to interact with Mehul Gupta- one of our ex-students at AIIMS who gave useful tips on how to study and crack premedical entrance tests.

It was an informative and motivating visit for the students.

VISIT TO MUGHAL GARDEN

 

Delhi Public School , Rohini organized an educational trip for the students of class-V , to the Mughal Gardens on Tuesday, 6 March 2018, as a part of the Nature Week to enjoy the beautiful flora and the onset of spring.

The wide variety of trees, bushes, vines and seasonal flowers mesmerized one and all. The crisp fragrant atmosphere and the colourful flower beds were a sight for sore eyes. The musical fountains added to the beauty of the breath taking surroundings. The children also visited the Bonsai Garden, Spiritual Garden and the Herbal Garden and learnt about the uses of various kinds of plants.

It was an enthralling experience for the children and gave them an opportunity to learn and appreciate the beauty of a variety of flowers and plants.

TRIP TO RAJASTHAN: JAIPUR

 

A group of 88 students of class VI and 9 teachers went on a three days trip to the vibrant city of Jaipur from 7 Jan 2018 to 9 Jan 2018. The journey by bus was very comfortable. During their stay the students visited Jantar Manta, City Palace, Bapu Bazar, Amer Fort, Chowki Dhani Village and Central Museum. The visit to Chowkidhani on second day was the highlight of the trip where they enjoyed the fair and the traditional Rajasthani food. It offered a blend of traditional and modern amenities in an ethnic environment. Their experience of the forts and palaces was very rich and educating. Students returned from the tour with a lot of happy memories.

VISIT TO PRATAPGARH FARMS, JHAJJAR

A daylong excursion to pratapgarh farms was organised for students of Class XII. 98 students went for the excursion accompanied by 5 teachers. It was a day full of fun, frolic games, dance and good food. Children enjoyed it very much. They enjoyed traditional village activities like camel ride, puppet show, matka race etc.

TRIP TO AGRA AN FATEHPUR SIKRI

 

A group of 148 students of Class VII and 14 teachers went on a two day trip to Agra and Fatehpur Sikri from 22 December – 23 December 2017.The journey by bus was very comfortable. During their stay, students visited Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Buland Darwaza, Fatehpur Sikri and Dargah of Sufi poet Salim Chishti. The stay in the hotel was comfortable. It was a wonderful experience for the students.

NATIONAL BAL BHAWAN EXCURSION

 

The children of Class II went to National Bal Bhawan for an excursion on 22 December, 2017. They visited the Traffic Training Park and learnt about the traffic signals. They were quite excited to see various types of fish at the Jawahar Aquarium. They enjoyed visiting the Children's Museum wherein they saw the Indian culture at its best. The joy train ride was the highlight of the outing. The chilly day ended on a warm note.

EXCURSION-THE RASHTRAPATI BHAWAN MUSEUM

 

An educational trip to the Rashtrapati Bhawan Museum was organized for the students of Class IV on Thursday, 14 December 2017. Students  visited the  hi- tech story telling museum and learnt about the major events that have happened in India and also came to know about  the exotic gifts received by the thirteen  Presidents of India from various parts of the world .The virtual walk with Gandhiji was the highlight of the visit.

Students enjoyed the trip and learnt a lot of facts about our country and its leaders.

A VISIT TO SULABH INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM OF TOILETS

 

Children of class V went for an educational trip to Sulabh International Museum of Toilets at Dwarka on 25 September 2017.

The children explored the historical trends in the development of toilets across the world. The museum exhibited toilets from ancient civilization to some ultra modern electronic toilets. The process of preparing biogas and its importance was explained to the children. The children learnt the importance of sanitation and hygiene through the audio-visual aids shown by the NGO authorities. Overall, it was an enriching experience for the students as well as the teachers.

TRIP TO VIMALHANS HOSPITAL - CLASS XII PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS

Psychology students visited the Mental Health Dept at Vimhans Hospital on 17.08.2017. A series of Events were planned to provide an exposure to the students. The day began with an Interaction with a Clinical Psychologist on Addiction Risk in Adolescents. This was followed by the Hospital Rounds where the students observed and understood the process of therapy including Electro Convulsive Therapy and Expressive Art based Therapy, has also visited the Soul and Mind centre and the Day care centre. Thereafter students participated in Food Therapy. An exposure to a session on Hypnotherapy was also provided to the students. A beautiful gesture to capture the memory, a framed picture of the food therapy event was gifted to the students. Students had an amazing experiential learning related to the theoretical content of Psychology.

TRIP TO PADAMPURI - CLASS IX

A 4 days and 3 nights camp to Padampuri was organized for class IX from 31 May 2017 – 3 June 2017. A group of 85 children along with 7 teachers participated in the camp. The journey by AC buses was comfortable. Children stayed in camps at the campsite. Over the next few days they enjoyed a host of activities like team building, river crossing, trekking, zip live, flying fox etc. through which they experienced a feeling of oneness with nature and its life forces. It was a wonderful experience for the children where they learnt to become independent along with acquiring other life skills.

Students of classes XI B (Biology) of our school along with Ms Shelly Wadhwa visited the exhibition which provided students an opportunity to learn briefly about human anatomy using pathological specimens. The students were also exposed to the basic forensic techniques – analyzing poisonous plants and animals, weapons etc., basic life support techniques like the CPR and microscopic examination of various tissues.
It was a fruitful and motivating visit for the students.

EDUCATIONAL EXCURSION TO THE NATIONAL MUSEUM

166 students of Class VI went on an educational excursion to the National Museum, Janpath. They were accompanied by 9 teachers. Students were divided into groups and a curator was attached with each group who showed various things kept in the museum as well as explained everything to the students. The main focus of the visit was to understand and study the ‘Harappan Civilization’. The museum had different things obtained during excavation from the Harappan sites and also Mohenjodaro. Apart from this, an audio visual was also shown to the students for better understanding of the same.

A VISIT TO THE MUGHAL GARDENS

The students of Class V went on an educational tour to the Mughal Gardens at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on 9 and 10 March 2017. The children saw a wide variety of flowers in full bloom, some of which were rare. They were apprised about the common names of the flowers and then their botanical equivalent. The students also learnt about the medicinal properties of many common plants and flowers. Everyone felt ecstatic especially on witnessing the Circular Garden. The riot of colours and the magnificence of the garden left everyone awe struck. The excursion was both a learning as well as an enjoyable experience for the children.

TRIP TO ASTROPORT, SARISKA (CLASSES VIII-D AND VIII-E)

Students of class VIII-D and VIII –E, DPS Rohini were given the opportunity of observing the night sky unpolluted by city lights and buildings at Astroport, Sariska on Saturday, December 9,2016 as part of one night and two days trip for 71 students accompanied by seven teachers.
The group reached its destination at 1:00 pm on December 9, 2016 and after a warm Rajasthani style welcome and lunch, students were engaged in various activities like team building, visit to organic farms to understand drip irrigation, vermicomposting, use of solar panels in agriculture, hiking, night sky gazing, watching celestial bodies through telescope, rocket launching session, safe sun watching, jungle safari and a cultural programme.
The stay at Astroport came to an end with a sumptuous breakfast followed by a group photograph on December10, 2016.
The night sky views were insightful and novel. Students enjoyed the trip tremendously.

EXCURSION TO FIRE STATION

Students of Class III went for an excursion to the Fire Safety Management Academy on 09 December, 2016. It was a learning experience where the children got to know about various safety measures that one needs to take during a fire breakout. The fire fighting skills were demonstrated and the queries and doubts of the students were answered by the fire experts. Thereafter the children were taken to Swarn Jayanti Park for a picnic where they enjoyed playing with their peers.

NATIONAL PHYSICAL LABORATORY

Students of the Science stream visited the National Physical Laboratory at CSIR. They experienced practical applications of the theories included in their curriculum. They had a hands on experience in making and launching rocket testing oils for adulteration. They also saw models of missiles and the Mars Rover and interact with scientists. This experience opened up new vistas of non-conventional careers in the field of research.

PLAY AT ICCR, AZAD BHAVAN, INDRAPRASTHA ESTATE

The students of class VI were taken to ICCR, Azad Bhavan for a play hosted by Salaam Baalak Trust, an Indian non-profit and non-governmental organization which provides a sensitive and caring environment to street and working children in Delhi, India.The play titled “Anokha Safar” depicted the changing landscape of our society. Revolving around the journey of three children in a Time Machine, it has been written, acted, and directed by the children and alumni of SBT.

A VISIT TO PARLE FACTORY

The students of Class V went on an educational tour to the Parle factory in Bahadurgarh on 05 and 06 December 2016. They watched a documentary about the conceptualisation and creation of Parle products. This was followed by a tour of the manufacturing and the packaging plant. They also enjoyed complimentary Parle goodies. The trip was a learning experience for the students.

EDUCATIONAL EXCURSION TO RED FORT

Students of class VII went for an educational trip to Red Fort, New Delhi on 25 November 2016.
The trip was organized to familiarize them with the glorious Mughal architecture. Students were given a tour of the monument and saw the legendary Diwan-I-Khas and Diwan-I-Am halls along with Rang Mahal and Char Bagh gardens.

SOS VILLAGE, BAWANA

On the occasion of Diwali, a group of students from Classes II-V visited the SOS Village, Bawana on 27 October 2016. Along with the good wishes of the school students, they also carried goodies which were shared with the children living in the village. It was a cheerful time of sharing and celebration. The students were also made aware of the fact that the SOS villages were set up by Hermann Gmeiner, after World War II.

EXCURSION-THE AIR FORCE MUSEUM
An excursion to the Air Force Museum, Palam Road was organized for the students of class IV on Thursday, 20 October 2016. The model aircrafts, the medals and the pictures of the Air Force personnel gave an insight into the exemplary work done by the Indian Air Force. It was truly an enriching learning experience for the students.

EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO CSIR-INSTITUTE OF GENOMICS AND INTEGRATIVE BIOLOGY

On Friday, October 14, 2016 Biology students of class XI visited CSIR- Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology along with their teacher Ms. Shelly Wadhwa on the occasion of celebration of 'Open Day' by the Institute.

Students visited various laboratories like the Cryopreservation Lab, Animal Experimentation, Molecular Biology Lab and were familiarized with techniques like gel electrophoresis, SDS PAGE, Western Blotting etc. The students got an opportunity to interact with various scientists and research students. They also attended lectures pertaining to creation of ‘antipathogenic’ bacteria and molecular biology in the treatment of diabetes.
It was an enriching experience and helped to motivate students to choose careers in the field of research.

EXCURSION AND PICNIC TO TRAFFIC TRAINING PARK
An excursion and picnic to Traffic Training Park, Bal Bhavan was organized by HT Pace for Class II children. The children attended a session on Safety Rules to be followed on road. They also enjoyed visiting the museum and fish aquarium. The children enjoyed with their friends and teachers. The visit was linformative as well as a memorable experience.

A German film festival was organised at Rukmani Devi Public School , Pitam Pura in collaboration with GIMMB, New Delhi on 02 May 2016. 43 Students from class VIII learning German were taken for the film (Ostwind) was followed by a Quiz.

Medical Exhibition- ‘CATALYST-2016’ at All India Institute of Medical Sciences
The Students’ Union of  AIIMS had organized a medical exhibition ‘CATALYST-2016’ for school students. A few Biology students of classes XI and XII of our school along with Ms Shelly Wadhwa visited the exhibition which provided students an opportunity to learn briefly about human anatomy using pathological specimens. The students were also exposed to the basic physiological techniques of preparing blood smear, ECG, measuring blood pressure etc. 
They also got an opportunity to interact with the top  AIIMSonians regarding preparation for medical entrance examination and time management. The session was followed by a lecture on Biophysics by Dr. T.P. Singh.
It was a fruitful-inspiring and motivating visit for the students.

HELLO JAPAN PROGRAMME
 - VISIT TO JAPAN EMBASSY
The students from Classes VII, IX and X visited the Embassy of Japan for the ‘Hello Japan Programme’. Presentations on Japan, its people, India - Japan relationship, festivals and Japanese school education system were shown to the visitors. This was followed by Yukata Demonstration, Traditional Toy Demonstration and Syodo Demonstration activities. The videos helped them to understand about the cultural similarities between the two nations and gave the students a unique platform to exchange their views, thoughts and ideas. The visit to the Embassy was an enriching experience as the students interacted with the Japanese Nationals. Children wore kimonos, played traditional games and did calligraphy.

VISIT TO PRATAPGARH FARMS

An excursion to Pratapgarh Farms was organised by DPS Rohini for students of class XII along with their teachers on Tuesday, 29 December, 2015.
The day was filled with fun and excitement. Students and teachers enjoyed various events and activities like cart ride, camel ride, pottery making, shooting, spoon race, sack race, board games like carom, chess etc. They also visited farm sites and got a glimpse into farm practices like ploughing, threshing, winnowing, biogas plant etc. To top it all there was sumptuous food and scintillating music and dance. Overall, it was a refreshing day for one and all.
 

03 & 12 October and 28 December 2015 
VISIT TO PHILATELIC MUSEUM
A visit to the philatelic museum was organized by the Department of Posts for the students of all the sections of class VI. A documentary was shown to the students which emphasized on various aspects of stamps used on a mail and the entire procedure beginning from selection of postmarks, post office, highest authority, rates, etc to final delivery. The documentary also showed various commemorative stamps.
The students were then taken for a museum tour where they saw stamps highlighting myriad aspects of India including historical events, eminent personalities, dance forms, wild life, national parks, textile, banking and sports. Besides Indian stamps issued by the Government of India and the princely states, the museum also boasts of a rich collection of first day covers as well as foreign stamps.
The students then participated in a drawing competition. The excursion was interesting as well as informative for the students.

TRIP TO VIDHAN SABHA
A study visit was organized for a group of 25 students of Class XI-E (Political Science and Legal Studies), who visited   the Vidhan Sabha to witness the proceedings of the ongoing winter session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. They were able to observe the details of the setting of the Legislative Assembly. They also paid attention to the manner in which the speaker and the legislators conducted themselves in the assembly. They were excited to see the legislators highlighting the problems of their constituency. Overall it was an informative experience.

BOOKAAROO IN THE CITY

Students of class VI and VII visited Shanker’s Centre for Children in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. It is a literature festival spread over three days, with authors, illustrators and guest speakers from India and abroad. 50 voracious readers had an opportunity to attend two  sessions there.  The first session was by Mr. Boori Monty Pryor, former Australian Children’s Laureate. He’s a charismatic gentleman who kept the children engaged in a laughter filled hour of dance, digeridoo and stories. The next session was by Mr. Michael Camilleri, an artist and award- wining illustrator. He is crazy about making comics, picture books, puppets, theatre, paintings and drawings. He is in India to share his favourite things from Australia. With him our children got a chance to doodle on the wall, creating the city of their wildest imagination.  There was a book fair Eureka, where students could buy books and get them signed by their favourite authors.
The students were accompanied by following teachers:  Ms. Divya Bhatnagar,  Ms. D Anuradha,  Ms. Aparna Chatterji and   Ms. Promila Chopra.

EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO CSIR-INSTITUTE OF GENOMICS AND INTEGRATIVE BIOLOGY

FIELD SURVEY
Geography students of Class XII-E were taken for a field survey on Tuesday, 6 October 2015, accompanied by Ms. Richa Bharadwaj. The agricultural survey was conducted in the village Nangal Thakran, near Bawana. Children could get a taste of village life. They tried their hands on harvesting rice. They walked through the fields and by the buffaloes. Interaction with the farmers and the villagers and trying to understand their way of life were the highlights of this survey. In the process, children realized how fortunate they were. The survey was an exercise in enrichment and an unforgettable experience for the entire group.

PLAY AT SHRI RAM CENTRE
The students of class VII B were taken to Shri Ram Centre, Mandi House for a play hosted by the school students of Ramjas School (Pusa Road).
The play titled “ Hamari Purani Nayi Kahani” focused on sensitizing students about issues of gender discrimination , child abuse, bullying in schools and cyber crimes. The theme was woven around the old fairy tale “The Little Red Riding Hood” and was presented with a modern perspective thereby helping students realise the importance of communication with their parents and teachers in everyday lives.

EDUCATIONAL EXCURSION TO GANDHI SMRITI FOR CLASS-X
59 students of class-X (all sections) went to Gandhi Smriti along with 4 teachers – Ms. Rashmi Dwivedi, Ms. Mamta, Mr. Harish and Ms. Monica Aggarwal. Gandhi Smriti, housed in the Old Birla House on 5, Tees January Marg, New Delhi, is the place where Mahatma Gandhi's epic life ended on 30-Jan-1948. Mahatma Gandhi had lived in this house from 09-Sep-1947 to 30-Jan-1948. Thus, the hallowed house treasures many memories of the last 144 days of his life. On display in the Museum are photographs, sculptures, paintings, frescos, inscriptions on rocks and relics pertaining to the years Mahatma Gandhi spent here. The meagre personal effects of Gandhiji too are carefully preserved. The legend at the base of the sculpture says, "My Life is My Message". Students enjoyed the movie based on the life of Gandhiji.

`SCHOLASTIC WRITING AWARDS- PRIZE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY AND UNVEILING OF `FOR KIDS BY KIDS`
On Friday, 24 July 2015, twenty students of DPS Rohini from classes VI, VII and VIII went to Sirifort Auditorium for ‘Scholastic Writing Awards’. They witnessed the prize distribution ceremony and unveiling of the book titled “For Kids By Kids”. The event also included a small session by Ms. Paro Anand on good writing practices. The students got an opportunity to interact with the prize winners as well as participate in a short quiz conducted by Mr. Aditya Mubayi.

VISIT TO ‘CATALYST’- THE MEDICAL EXHIBITION AT AIIMS
On Saturday,2 May, 2015, 51 students of DPS Rohini from classes X,XI and XII visited AIIMS for ‘Catalyst’- a Medical Exhibition showcasing physiological methods demonstrating various techniques like the CPR, Reaction time, measuring blood pressure etc. It also included an exhibition and display of various preserved human organs depicting morphological and anatomical details.
The exhibition was not only informative but also enabled students to see various human organs beyond virtuality. They also got an opportunity to interact with medical students and doctors and get a few of their queries solved.
The students were accompanied by Ms. Shelly Wadhwa and Ms. Meena Khanna.

VISIT TO GANDHI SMRITI
As part of the World Heritage day celebration, the children of classes VIII and IX paid a visit to ‘Gandhi Smriti’ on 16th and 17th April respectively. The museum provides an insight into the life and works of the great living heritage of Gandhi who inspired the national movement of India. The students visited the Gandhi Memorial and also listened to excerpts from Gandhiji’s original speeches at the Congress sessions.

GERMAN FILM SHOW ORGANIZED BY GIMMB
The students of class VII who are learning German language were taken for a show of the German Film” Mondscheinkinder”. The film show was held at Rukmini Devi Public School, Pitam Pura. The movie was followed by a quiz about the film in German.
