SENIOR INTRA SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

TOPIC: HINDI WEEK

ABOUT THE EVENT:

To develop literary skills and inculcate values, a Hindi week was celebrated in the school from Monday, 26th November to Friday, 30th November 2018 wherein various events and competitions were organized for the students of Classes VI-IX and XI.

On 26th November 2018 students of Class VI had Character Dramatization Competition. Various historical and mythological characters such as Rani Laxmi bai, Birbal, Rani Padmavati, Ravana were enacted by the students. Value based stories were also told the students.

On 27th November 2018, Kavya Nritya Competition was organized for the students of Class VII. Each team comprised of two students. One child recited the poem and the other presented a dance based on it. It was followed by a storytelling session, in which snippets from the life of great poets such as Rabindranath Tagore and Subhadra Kumari Chauhan were shared with the students.

On 28th November 2018, a Nukkad Natak Competition was organised for the students of Class VIII. Students highlighted various social issues such as ‘Plight of women/ girl child in the society’, ‘Life of a soldier’, ‘water scarcity’, ‘Pollution’ etc.

The event was followed by a storytelling session in which snippets of the life of great leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi were shared.

An Advertisement Making Competition based on social issues was organized for Class IX students on 29th November 2018 to foster awareness and sensitivity among them.

‘Sahityik Chaupal’ was organized on 30th November for the students of Class XI to develop reading habits and interest in Hindi language. Students dressed up as prominent Hindi poets and writers like Premchand, Mannu Bhandari, Krishna Sobti etc.and read their writings.

TOPIC: EK SUR- HINDI GROUP RECITATION COMPETITION

ABOUT THE EVENT: Poetry is an eternal graffiti written in the heart of everyone – Lawrence Ferlinghetti.

Rhymes are instrumental stepping stones for young children to develop their verbal skills and also to boost their confidence. Keeping this in mind, the students of Class III participated in ‘Ek Sur- Hindi Group Recitation Competition’ on Thursday, 15 November ’18.

Students, who were divided into groups, recited poems on different topics with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm.

Day 3 - An Inter Class Panel Discussion for class XI was held on Thursday, 1st November as a part of the Social Science week. The Topic of the discussion was

‘SPEAK UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS- A STEP TOWARDS A CIVIL SOCIETY’.

Panellists from each section of class XI presented their varied views on the subjects such as Homosexuality, Me Too movement & He For She. Panellists were well read and informed. Audience students too participated actively by raising many questions which were handled by the panellists with a lot of clarity. It was an enriching experience for all.

Day 4 - The finale and major highlight of the week-long celebrations was the colourful display of various aspects of states of India by students in their respective classrooms. It was highly appreciated by the visiting parents, teachers and students alike.

TOPIC: Intra MUN 2018

ABOUT THE EVENT: Model United Nations (MUN) is an activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. It creates a world without borders and helps the kids build analytical and debating skills. Students research about various international treaties and foreign policies and find out ways to overcome all the challenges that we face in the present. The activity was held on 9th and 10th August and the students were divided into two committees. The respective committees were chaired by ex-students and present students. TOPIC: COMMERCE WEEK (BIZECO-2018)

ABOUT THE EVENT: The ‘Commerce week’, INTRA BIZECO 2018 was organized from 30 July to 3 August 2018 in the school by the students of classes XI and XII. The aim was to promote financial literacy among students of classes VI-XII.

Several events were organized during the week which included: an IPO session for class XII wherein a live demonstration was carried out about the trading of shares.

Financial Literacy sessions were taken by students of class XI for the students of classes VI, VII & VIII.

THE QUIZECO, a Business & Economics quiz was arranged for classes IX and X on July 30th, 2018.

The BIZECO stock exchange was organized on 1st August 2018 for classes IX to XI, wherein students traded shares on a virtual simulator and the team with the highest profit was declared the winner. The event was joined by the previous CEOs of BIZECO – Saiyam Jain and Rohil Kanwar.

An Economics Symposium for classes X and XI was conducted on 2nd August 2018. Students whole-heartedly spoke on current economic issues and topics like oil prices, China Pakistan Economic Corridor, etc. The event was graced by Ms. Vibha Singh, Principal DPS Rohini.

Students were also engaged in the BIZECO START-UP SUMMIT where they shared their ideas of their innovative business plans. Dhruv Gupta and Anirudh Gupta (former students), the founders of BIZECO moderated and judged the event. The event concluded with Dhruv and Anirudh sharing their experiences in their respective fields.

TOPIC: National Level Painting Competition (Class 6)

ABOUT THE EVENT: KASHISH PATNI of class VI participated in the 8^th National Level Painting Competition on the topic of Water Conservation organized by The Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India. The competition was held on 23 February 2018 at the JNU Campus, New Delhi.

Kashish was selected in the top 50 students from classes VI, VII and VIII out of approximately 15 lakh participants across India.

She received a Consolation prize in the competition and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs.2000 and a gift hamper consisting of a Delhi bag, poster colours, pencil colours, diary, stationary items, a t-shirt and a cap.

TOPIC: Interactive Session on Study Abroad

ABOUT THE EVENT: A one day interactive session between parents, students and representatives from various foreign universities was organized on Tuesday January 30, 2018 between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm in the school premises.

Ten USA representatives from universities such as Duke University, California Lutheran University, Rider University and so on, visited the school to interact with the parents and students.

Students and parents came forward with their queries on studying abroad. They sought information on the courses available, time and procedure to apply and so on. The parents were quite satisfied with the interactive session. The parents appreciated this platform, which helped them gather a lot of information in a little time also helping them take decisions related to their wards’ career.

TOPIC: SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON REPUBLIC DAY BY GANGA HOUSE

ABOUT THE EVENT: A special assembly was conducted by Ganga House on Thursday 24 January 2018 to celebrate the 69th Republic Day of India.

A ballet depicting the true meaning of freedom based on Rabindranath Tagore’s poem ‘Where the mind is without fear’ enthralled the audience. The news highlighting India’s great achievements in the year 2017 – 18 added a different tinge to the day’s programme. A talk show depicting the importance of the constitution in our day to day life served as an eye opener. The marching contingents of students representing the Defence Forces of India: Army, Navy and Air Force presented a spectacular show. A beautifully decorated tableau made on the theme’ Unity in Diversity’ drew everyone’s appreciation. Finally, the release of tri-coloured balloons by the School Principal Ms Vibha Singh cheered the assembly.

NAME / TITLE : State Day

ABOUT THE EVENT: An intra class activity for classes VI – VIII was organized by the Social Science department to mark the celebrations of the Republic Day 2018.

The students enthusiastically participated in the event by decorating their classes in the state allotted to them. The students presented a myriad display of local cuisine, culture, textiles and unique aspects of the diverse states of the country. Some of the classes also focused on the dances and music related to the state highlighting the traditional aspect of the region. The event was a mesmerizing display of Unity in Diversity.

Diwali Celebrations were held in the school from 10.10.17 to 17.10.17.the following activities were organized-

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON DIWALI

A Special assembly to celebrate an Eco-friendly Diwali was held on 12.10.17 by class X-D. The students raised the issue of the children involved in the making of crackers in Shivakasi and the hazards caused by the bursting of crackers through talk show. They also gave some tips to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly manner.

Principal Mrs. Vibha Singh read a pledge to reiterate the significance to celebrate a cracker free Diwali.

Student volunteers of class XI and the Environment Club students of classes IX and XI were trained as peer educators. EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS

The celebrations on Earth Day commenced with the assembly presented by Brahmaputra House on 20 April 2017. The programme began by watering of the Tulsi plant – by the Principal, Mrs. Vibha Singh, Vice Principal Mrs. Kanika S Govi, students and teachers. This was followed by a striking instrumental piece representing the beautiful harmony between music and nature.

The assembly highlighted the importance of protecting trees as well as caring for Mother Earth alongwith a beautiful thought for the day. A dance was also performed in this regard. The assembly was concluded by the pledge to maintain the greenery of our precious planet and also conserve its resources. Principal, Mrs. Vibha Singh addressed the students and urged them to do their bit to maintain the greenery of our precious planet and also conserve its resources.

HERITAGE DAY CELEBRATIONS- 2017

To inculcate the importance of conserving our heritage, the Heritage Day was celebrated on Tuesday, 18th April 2017 in our school. Students of classes VI to X participated in it with great zeal and enthusiasm. The following activities were held for the same-

INTRA MUN CONFERENCE

The Model United Nations society organized DPSR Intra MUN on 19-20 December 2016. Students from classes VIII-XI participated in the MUN, either as delegates or as members of the International Press. Two committees were simulated-
1971 Lok Sabha Ad Hoc Committee comprising students from classes VIII and IX, and the United Nations Security Council comprising students from class X. The agenda of the Lok Sabha was “Discussing the developments in East Pakistan and framing an action plan to tackle the issue”, while the agenda of the Security Council was “Situation in Crimea”.
The International Press created newspapers based on the committees over the course of the two days. It comprised 6 journalists, 6 photographers and 4 cartoonists from various classes.

CONSTITUTION DAY CELEBRATIONS

Constitution Day was celebrated on 26 November 2016 as per the directives of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India the celebrations. It aimed at upholding the values enshrined in our Constitution.
The following activities were conducted as part of the celebrations :

• Mass reading of the Preamble in the School assembly.
• An Essay writing activity was held on the topic ‘26 November and its Relevance in Indian History’ for Class XI.
• Speeches of renowned leaders pertaining to values of freedom were uploaded on the school Smart-Class board and shown to Classes VI - XII in their respective Social Science period. This was followed by a class-discussion on the same.
• Fundamental Duties were read out and emphasis was laid on how duties and rights go hand-in-hand.
• The Constitution Day Quiz from the website of the Ministry of Human Resource Development was conducted on 25 November, 2016.
• A Lecture cum Interactive Session was conducted by Advocate R. Ramachandran from DSLA for students of the Legal Literacy Club. He spoke on the importance of Fundamental Duties and focused on their implementation in the areas of traffic rules and violence against women.

OBSERVING VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK, 2016

Delhi Public School, Rohini observed the Vigilance Awareness Week from 2nd November 2016 till 5th November 2016. In order to reinforce this year’s theme of ‘Public Participation in Promoting Integrity and Eradicating Corruption’ following activities were organised in different classes:

1. Under the guidance of Social Science department students of classes VI, VII and VIII took the initiative of writing slogans against the social menace of corruption and encouraging public participation in its eradication. The importance of spreading awareness on vigilance in public life was depicted through slogans like:

‘STOP TAKING BRIBE, ELSE FOR EVERYTHING YOU WILL STRIVE’
‘STOP FOOLING & CHEATING OTHERS, ELSE CORRUPTION WILL REACH ITS HEIGHTS.’
‘POLLUTION BY CORRUPTION LEADS TO OUR DESTRUCTION.’

2. Hindi Department conducted elocution on the topic ‘Ekta hi humare desh ki pragati ka aadhar hai’ (Promoting integrity ensures the prosperity of nation) for classes IX & X. Students spoke about India’s diversity, secularism, brotherhood and other Indian values leading to unity among people. It was a meaningful activity which made students more conscious about India’s cultural integrity and solidarity.

3. Commerce Department organised an essay writing activity on the topic ‘e-governance as an effective tool to curb corruption’ for classes XI and XII. Students wrote about novel ways to curb corruption in various sectors through e-governance. It also gave them an insight into this growing social problem and a hindrance to our growth and development. Students also came up with solutions to deal with problems by means of e-governance and standardisation of processes like adopting cashless payments in all public sector departments to eliminate trots and brokers.

Observance of these activities led to a greater awareness among students which will further help to develop a questioning and critical outlook thus promoting transparency in public life.

EXUBERANCE 2016

Exuberance’ 2016 was organized for the senior school on Thursday, 29 September 2016. The event provided a platform for the students to not only showcase their diverse talents, but also to learn the importance of team spirit. The day’s events comprised an Inter-House Treasure Hunt for classes VI-IX, an Inter-House Ad-Mad for classes IX-XI, and a Talent Show for classes VI-XII. The innovative clues provided throughout the Treasure Hunt encouraged the students to test their ability to think on their feet, while the Ad-Mad gave them the opportunity to create their own advertisements whilst ensuring that they understood the need for new innovations to work for social welfare. The Talent Show brought out hidden talent from every corner of the school, as every participant commanded the stage with confidence and shared a piece of themselves with the audience.
All in all, Exuberance 2016 was a success- just like the previous year, and hopefully similar to years to come.

INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR PRESERVATION OF OZONE LAYER (2016)

September 16, 2016 was observed as the International Day for Preservation of Ozone layer. The following activities were planned for the bi-month September-October to raise awareness about the same.
Class VI
Slogan writing on the topic: Decreasing ozone, Increasing dangers was organised in the Social Science period in each section.

Interesting slogans displayed on the soft board.
Class VII
Theme: `When Air Conditioners were not so common’
Activity taken up by the Social Science teacher of every section: Students spoke to their parents and grandparents about the times when ACs were not so common and even Air coolers were considered a luxury.

Children shared their experience and tips to keep the summer cool in the class.
Class XI-XII
All students of Geography were divided into 5 groups. They prepared a power point presentation on ‘Global Warming- its causes and impact’

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS DRIVE

Students participated in the Environmental awareness drive organized by the CBSE to celebrate World Environment Day, World Ocean Day and World Water Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. Various activities were conducted in the school for students of Class II – XII. All the activities were followed by group discussion in the Class. Report of the same was sent to the Directorate of Education.
• Just-a-minute (JAM) / Extempore on Environment related topics was held for the students of Class XII in the Class.
• Poster making activity was held for the students of Environment Club for Class VI to X on the theme ‘Healthy Ocean, Healthy Planet’.
• Best Out of Waste – ‘Rags to Riches’ activity was held for students of the environment club on the theme ‘Healthy Ocean, Healthy Planet’. The objective of the activity was to foster awareness about the 3 R’s – Reduce, Recycle and Reuse.
• Modules on the topics - Amazing Underwater Marine Life, Glimpse of Marine Life Andaman Sea and Ocean & Earth - One Heartbeat were shown to the students of Class III – V.

EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS
The celebrations on Earth Day commenced with the Assembly presented by Class IX on 21 April 2016. The programme began by watering of the Tulsi plant by the Principal, Mrs. Vibha Singh, Vice Principal Mrs. Kanika S Govi and students and teachers of the Environment Council. This was followed by a song by the school choir. The assembly highlighted the importance of protecting trees as well as caring for Mother Earth.
