PROGRAMME - EVENT UPDATES
Indo German Cultural Exchange programme has been running successfully since 2009. The exchange programme between Delhi Public School, Rohini and DieLoburg Johanneum Gymnasium, Ostbevern, Germany fosters the philosophy of ‘Education for Intercultural Understanding’. As part of this programme, the students and teachers of DPS Rohini visited DieLoburg Johanneum Gymnasium, Ostbevern, Germany from 21 May – 10 June 2016. This trip provided the opportunity to develop international mindedness which lies at the heart of intercultural understanding. This interaction aroused the curiosity of the students to learn more about the language and culture of their counterparts. To complete the circle of
interaction and development, students and teachers from DieLoburg are
visiting DPS Rohini from 7 October – 27 October 2016. |
07 October 2016 - 12 October 2016 |
After their arrival on the 07 October 2016 the German students settled in with their host families. 8-12 October being the Dussehra break in school, the visiting members from Die Loburg enjoyed Dussehra and Durga Pooja festivities and learnt about Indian festivals and culture.

Thursday, 13 October 2016 |
A welcome Assembly was organised for the German students and teachers to acquaint tehm with a normal working day in the life of a student at DPS Rohini. They were also given a tour of the school followed by an Orientation session on India to introduce the guests to India’s cultural diversity. |
Friday, 14 October 2016 |
A hindi language session followed by a
documentary on Partition of India and Pakistan was conducted for the
exchange students. The guests practiced and learnt the ancient Indian

Saturday, 15 October 2016 |
The German Exchange Group visited TAJ MAHAL, one of
the most popular seven wonders of the world, on 15 October 2016.
Students appreciated the architectural beauty of the monument built BY
the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Its was na interesting experience for
them where they shopped for souvenirs, clicked photographs and brought
home memories for a lifetime. |
Monday, 17 October 2016 |
A visit to the
Parliament was organised on Monaday, 17 October 2016 for the students of
Info-German Exchange group. They were taken to both the Houses of the
Parliament – Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as part of the study your. The
Parliament Guide also showed them the CENTRAL HALL and an interactive
session was held there to familiarise them with the working of the
Institution. |

MAX MUELLER BHAVAN conducted a workshop
‘FIT-for-India’ for the visiting German Students at Delhi Public School
Rohini on Tuesday, 18 October 2016. The objective of the workshop was to
familiarise the German Students with Indian culture and society. The
Resource person from MMB, Ms. Shilpa held an interactive session

Students of the German Exchange
Programme visited the GANDHI SMRITI MUSEUM on Wednesday, 19 October
2016. They undertook a guided tour of the museum and gained an insight
into the life and works of Gandhiji. A film on Mahatma Gandhi’s Role in
India’s Independence struggle and his assassination was also viewed. |
Thursday, 20 October 2016 |
The German students were introduced to Hindustani Classical music and were taught the basics of playing the sitar. They also learnt the Gayatri Mantra and were taught the ancient Indian art of Madhubani painting and even tried their hand at it. After a hectic day at school, they visited the Akshardham Temple and enjoyed the musical fountain show. They also learnt more about Swami Narayan and his philosophy. They enjoyed a guided boat tour through the Akshardham Temple.

Students were introduced to the game of cricket and learnt about some of the most famous cricketers of India. They enjoyed a fun game of cricket with the Students of DPS Rohini. This was followed by a friendly basketball game. |
Saturday, 22 October 2016 |
The day was reminiscent of Germany as the German Students attended the German Fest at DPS Vasant Kunj. They enjoyed various competitions organised there and also enjoyed some of the German delicacies. |
Monday and Tuesday, 24-25 October 2016 |
Musical rehearsals for the farewell presentation and extensive work on the project, ‘Breaking Barriers – A Road to Unity’ was carried out. Students prepared posters and presentations as a part of this project. |

The German Exchange Programme 2016 came to an end with a cultural programme presented by the Indo-German group.
A mellifluous rendition of the Gayatri Mantra on the Sitar, played by the German students and teachers was the highlight of the day. A medley of peppy German songs was also presented along with a dance presentation by the German and Indian students. The selected posters and PowerPoint presentation related to the project were also put on display and were explained by the German and Indian students.
Memories of the Exchange Programme were compiled in the form of a short video film and brought tears in the eyes of the hosts and guests as they bid adieu. The movie served as a perfect parting gift of memories of an eventful exchange programme.
